Wallpaper is one of those things that makes some clients cringe, and some light up with joy. Through the years, wallpaper has received a bad rep, but it’s poised for a serious comeback — this time with many different design applications. From vintage patterns to classic stripes, and large murals, wallpaper has never been more versatile or more fun.
Using wallpaper in just the right places can add texture and a bit of whimsy. That’s why we use it when designing our models, like the spaces above found in our Ellis Crossing Community in Durham, NC. There is a great loft area on the second floor that opens to the area below. When walking up the stairs you are greeted by a fun book print on the entire back wall. This doesn’t just make the space more inviting, it gives a fun alternative to paint.
One of our luxury models, the Waverly, also uses wallpaper, but in a different way. By mixing the sleek, mid-century modern design inspiration with funky patterns takes the wallpaper to new heights, literally. For this model, we incorporated wallpaper on the ceiling to add a serious “wow factor” as soon as you enter the front door. The entire kitchen ceiling has a black and white geometric pattern that pull the eye up. The stacked cabinets offer critical design support by creating a place for the eye to rest while making this room feel very tall.
When all is said and done, wallpaper is indeed back and here to stay. So, have fun with it and put some wallpaper in your next project!
